Priorities: Local Business Ads
September 4, 2025 board meeting agenda:

Background: In an effort to make SCRO’s website more useful, we have considered listing local businesses on the website. In general, the board is inclined to support this idea. However, questions have been raised about whether it would be legal, given our nonprofit status, to charge for those listings. The alternative is to list businesses for no charge, or not at all.
Discussion: Consider 1) including local business ads on SCRO’s website and 2) charging for placement of those ads. This may first require a professional consultation. (See attachment “Proposal: Local Business Ads…”)
Vote by voice: Motion to “???”

September 4, 2025 board meeting minutes:

Discussion: Board Member Frase proposed that the remaining four major agenda items [including this one] be discussed in the 9/18 work session rather than this board meeting due to the time limitation.
Vote: Board Member Squire moved to forward the remaining four major agenda items to the 9/18 work session; Board Member Powell seconded the motion. A voice vote resulted as follows: The yeas prevailed; motion passed.

September 18, 2025 work session post-meeting notes:

Discussion: Board Member Frase led a discussion regarding whether SCRO should charge local business for a listing on SCRO’s website.
One option is to only list businesses that belong to members. However, that reduces the value of the listing for people (whether SCRO members or not) looking for a list of businesses who are willing to service the Ranches. Not all local business owners own property in the Ranches; those business owners would not have the option of joining SCRO and having their business listed. The more value we can provide, the more traffic our website will experience.
The general consensus was that we should provide a listing of all local business (with their permission), whether the business owners are SCRO members or not, at no charge to the businesses or those accessing the list. Businesses owned by SCRO members could be highlighted in some way.

October 2, 2025 board meeting agenda:

Note: During the Sep 18 work session, the board decided to add a directory of local businesses to the website. This directory will be provided to the community at no cost to the businesses or consumers. Any business that provides products and services to those living in the Ranches can request to have their contact information posted in the directory by sending that information to SCRO’s email (communityscro@gmail.com).
